Wellbeing

St Pius X Primary School Heidelberg West
At St Pius X, student wellbeing is embedded across all curriculum areas, with positive behaviours and respect for oneself, others, and property being central to our school culture. We encourage all students to understand and uphold these expectations.
Through a whole-school approach to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and respectful relationships education, students develop important skills such as emotional language, self-management, problem-solving, and building positive relationships, while also promoting diversity and inclusion. Our Buddy Program further empowers students to work together, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where everyone feels valued.
St Pius X is committed to creating a safe space where emotional growth can flourish. We empower our students to build resilience and a strong sense of self, enabling them to thrive both academically and personally.

Wellbeing Programs
St. Pius X Primary has created a fantastic opportunity for students to engage in meaningful outdoor learning through their Bush School and Gardening/Stem Program. These initiatives not only support physical development (gross and fine motor skills) but also offer a deeper connection to nature, creativity, and increased self-regulation.

-
Bush School provides an amazing space for free movement, allowing students to explore and develop their motor skills while also fostering creativity through arts and crafts.
-
The Gardening/Stem Program offers students a chance to interact with nature, helping them gain an appreciation for the environment, biodiversity, and human responsibility toward sustainability. Additionally, by working on gardening projects, students can take pride in their accomplishments and see the tangible results of their efforts.
By combining outdoor activities with education about the natural world, the programs help students not only grow physically and mentally but also build a strong sense of responsibility and accomplishment. It's a great way to nurture both self-regulation and an appreciation for the environment!
